Scope note
Joints generally used in woodworking to either hold two or more wooden boards together or to stabilize a splitting board or knothole. A butterfly joint is typically cut from a single piece of wood in a shape resembling two dovetails connected at the narrow part; it is fitted into a hole of the same shape that has been cut in the board or boards.
